SIGN THE FOLK CHARTER
THE FOLK UNION CHARTER IS A SIMPLE PLEDGE THAT ASKS PROJECTS, GROUPS, MAKERS AND ORGANISERS TO STAND TOGETHER FOR FAIR, HONEST AND LIVING CULTURE.
To sign the Charter is to say: we treat people properly, we respect the land we stand on, and we believe folk belongs to everyone.
You don’t need to be a formal organisation or a long-established group. If you hold events, make work, sing, craft, organise, publish or gather people under the broad flag of folk, you can sign.
WHY SIGN?
- To show your commitment to fair treatment, inclusivity and respect for culture and land.
- To stand with others against exploitation, enclosure and nationalism.
- To be part of a growing map of projects that keep folk political and alive.
- To remind audiences and partners that folk is about people, not profit.
HOW IT WORKS
- Read the Charter and make sure it reflects what you do.
- Fill in the short form — tell us who you are, what you do, and where you’re based.
- You’ll be added to the public register of Folk Union projects and may display the Folk Union badge on your site or materials.
- There’s no cost to join. We simply ask that you act in good faith and uphold the principles you’ve signed.
WHAT YOU RECEIVE
- A Folk Union digital badge for your website or poster.
- Listing in the Union’s directory of recognised projects.
- Invitations to seasonal Assemblies and gatherings.
- The right to use the words “Member of the Folk Union Commons.”
Folk is not for sale. Folk is not nostalgia. Folk is the culture of the people
Sign the Charter. Stand with us. Defend the commons. Once signed, return to THE FOLK UNION via post or email.
